Romans 1:16–25
Why Do I Need God’s Grace? We Need Grace More Than We Think

Do you ever feel like you believe in God, but still keep trying to prove you are enough on your own?

In this message, Why Do I Need God’s Grace?, we begin the series Postcards from Rome: Grace That Changes Us by looking at Romans 1:16–25, where Paul says, “I’m not ashamed of the gospel: it is God’s own power for salvation to all who have faith in God.”

Many people believe in God, go to church, pray, serve, and try to do the right things, but still look to success, approval, comfort, control, money, family, or even religious performance to give them worth, peace, safety, and identity. Romans reminds us that created things cannot give us what only God can give.

In this sermon, we explore why we need grace more than we think, how sin often begins when we ask created things to do what only God can do, and why conviction is not God’s rejection but God’s invitation to grace.

In this message, you will learn:

• Why the gospel is more than advice for self-improvement
• How created things can become substitutes for God
• Why trying to be enough on your own leaves you restless
• How conviction can lead us toward grace instead of shame
• What it means to stop pretending and start trusting God
