Luke 18:9-14

Do you ever find yourself focused on what everyone else needs to change?

We will continue the series Maturing in Christ: When Faith Moves Beyond Belief by looking at Luke 18:9–14, where Jesus tells a parable about a Pharisee and a tax collector.

Many people want to grow spiritually, but humility is often the doorway we try to avoid. It is easier to notice what is wrong with others than to stand honestly before God and ask where our own way of seeing things may need to change.

Jesus shows us that spiritual maturity does not grow through comparison, pride, or judgment. It begins when we stop pretending, receive the grace God is already offering, and allow that grace to make us more merciful toward others.

In this sermon, we explore why comparison blocks transformation, how religious performance can hide an unchanged heart, and why humility opens us to the mercy and grace of God.
