Does God still speak today? And if God does, how can we recognize God’s voice without assuming that every thought, feeling, or impression comes from God?
In the first message of our Listening for God series, we explore the story of Samuel learning to recognize God’s call. We will discover that listening for God is not about achieving instant certainty. It is about developing a relationship with God and becoming attentive to the ways God speaks through Jesus Christ, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit.
Through 1 Samuel 3:1–10, Hebrews 1:1–2, and John 10:27, we will consider:
- Why recognizing God’s voice is something we learn
- How Samuel needed Eli’s help to understand what he was hearing
- Why Jesus Christ is the clearest revelation of God
- How prayer, Scripture, worship, and Christian community help us listen
- Why humility is an essential part of spiritual discernment
God desires a relationship with you. You do not need perfect spiritual hearing before you can begin listening. You can begin with Samuel’s simple prayer: “Speak, Lord. Your servant is listening.”
