How can you tell whether a thought or inner prompting is from God? In this message, we explore how to recognize the quiet guidance of the Holy Spirit without assuming that every thought or feeling is God speaking.
Elijah expected to encounter God in the wind, earthquake, and fire, but God met him through “a sound. Thin. Quiet.” His experience reminds us that God’s guidance can be quiet without being weak.
Through 1 Kings 19:11–13, and Galatians 5:16–25, we will consider three important truths:
- God often meets us without drama.
- The fruit of the Spirit helps us test what we sense.
When you experience an inner prompting, ask:
- Does it reflect the character and teachings of Jesus?
- Is it consistent with Scripture?
- Will following it produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control?
We do not need to chase dramatic signs or label every thought as God’s voice. We can stay close to Jesus, listen for the Holy Spirit, and take the next faithful step of love.
